How did you start your Hair & Makeup journey?
Growing up, I watched in aww my mum apply her make up. She had peircing blue eyes and a rich brown/black hair. Then I was obsessed by ‘Looks’ magazine, I would collect it every month and pur over the shoots, I’d subscribe to monthly make up boxes (my mum paid for them bless her)and imagine I would be doing the supermodels’ make ups and front covers.
I was also very good at art, drawing/sketching freehand with charcoal or whatever was laying around, so I just combined the 2 passions really. Hair styling and the notion to do it, came later on. I had to do an HND in make up artistry, which required 3 years hairdressing before the final year. I wasnt that into colouring perming etc, but styling hair, I love, so I decided to provide both.
How long have you been an hmua?
Longer than I care to say lol.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
The reactions from brides, especially from those at the trial who say ‘oh I don’t wear much make up’ and you deliver a complete transformation which still makes then look like themselves, reflects their personality, just better, enhanced, glowing. This is very true of mothers of the brides also. You feel and see the change in self belief/confidence. That’s the really rewarding part – if they don’t feel good/ like what you do, you won’t feel accomplished until they do feel that way.
Within the fashion industry, its when you receive final stills from photographers of a photoshoot you have worked on, its really satisfying.
What’s your least favourite part?
