Choosing the right foundation for your wedding is important to ensure that you look your best on your big day. When selecting a foundation, consider your skin type and the coverage level you desire. If you have oily skin, look for a matte foundation to control shine. If you have dry skin, opt for a hydrating formula. Additionally, choose a shade that matches your skin tone and consider a long-wear formula for all-day coverage. Don’t forget to do a trial run before your wedding day to ensure that the foundation works well with your skin and looks great in photos.
There are several different types of foundation available, each with its own unique benefits and finishes. Some of the most common types of foundation include liquid, powder, cream, and stick. Liquid foundation provides a natural, dewy finish and is great for those with dry or normal skin. Powder foundation is ideal for oily skin as it provides a matte finish. Cream foundation is perfect for those with dry skin as it is hydrating and provides a dewy finish. Lastly, stick foundation is convenient for on-the-go application and is great for touch-ups throughout the day.
When it comes to Foundation for your wedding day, you need to consider what kind of coverage you are comfortable with. Personally, I don’t like the feeling of foundation so I opt for a sheer coverage (more of a tinted moisturiser) but when it comes to making sure it lasts all day for a wedding, I reach for a more medium coverage that is buildable. Often I will mix a sheer coverage with a medium one as long as they are both similar types of foundation.
Another thing to consider when it comes to foundation, is the type of primer you use with it. If you find that your foundation isn’t lasting and going patchy, this could be caused by dry skin or mixing a silicone based primer with a water based foundation. Ensure that your primer and foundation are the same base. To do this, look at the ingredients, if Silicone, Dimethicone or any ingredients with cone appear at the top of the ingredients, it’s likely it’s silicone based, if this ingredient comes further down the list then it’s likely water based.
Something that foundations can do is oxidise, this is when the foundation goes darker as the day goes on. Mac Studio Fix is known for doing this, so if you love your foundation and it does this, then opt for a slightly lighter shade.
Some of our members have shared their favourite foundations in their kits. Amerz Beauty Basics favours Nars, Illamasqua and Lord & Berry foundations and uses them depending on the coverage needed for the client, and also Charlotte Tilbury.
Rachel Robertson always reaches for Charlotte Tilbury foundations and often mixes them and feels that they suit everyone and photograph beautifully. Another vote for Charlotte Tilbury by Rachel Spence, who loves the foundations, saying they blend really well with other brands, in particular Mii Foundation.
My personal favourites are Makeup by Mario Surreal Skin (this is great for dry skin with a good amount of coverage, a little goes a long way) and Delilah Cosmetics Time Frame (use code MAKEUPBYHANIA22 for 22% off) this is great for mature, dry skin and I love to mix it with Makeup by Mario for a bit more coverage and to last all day but this foundation is buildable.
Armani Luminous Silk is also another Makeup Artist favourite and loved by celebrities too.
