Our Members share their top tips to get the most out of your Wedding Hair and Makeup Trial.
One of the best ways to ensure that you look exactly how you want to on your wedding day is to have a hair and makeup trial. This allows you to work with your hairstylist and makeup artist to create the perfect look for your big day. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your wedding hair and makeup trial:
- Bring inspiration photos: Before your trial, gather some photos of hairstyles and makeup looks that you like. This will give your hairstylist and makeup artist a better understanding of the look you are going for. Member Natasha Griffinadvises not to use Pinterest as inspiration, often these photos are heavily fitlered and editied. Instead choose inpiration photos of people with the same hair colour, style, skin tone as you (and even better, choose from your Artists portfolio).
- Wear a white shirt: It’s a good idea to wear a white shirt to your trial so you can see how your hair and makeup will look against the colour of your dress.
- Be honest: If you don’t like something, speak up! Your hairstylist and makeup artist are there to make sure you are happy with your look. Be honest about what you do and don’t like so they can make any necessary changes.
- Take photos: Take photos of your hair and makeup from different angles to see how it looks in different lighting. This will give you a better idea of how it will look in photos on your wedding day.
- Schedule your trial for the right time: It’s a good idea to schedule your trial on a day when you have a dress fitting or another wedding-related event. This will give you a chance to see how your hair and makeup look with your dress and other wedding accessories. Member Jack Mungall says it’s a good idea to have all your trials on the same day, so hair and makeup, spray tan etc.
- Bring your hair accessories if you have them. Natasha has a spare veil she can use at her trials but recommends to bring any hair accessories you plan to wear.
- Arrive on time! Ailsa Doc advises not to be late for your trial as that will eat into your time. Often Artists are busy and scheduling a trial can be difficult (especially in peak wedding season) so make sure you get the most out of it by arriving on time. It is unlikely you will be able to have a complete different look at your trial in the allocated time, small changes here or there can be acommodated but anything like a complete change will need to be done in another trial.
- Finally, if you or any of your Bridal party intend on wearing hair extensions, please inform your Hair stylist. Extenstions take additional time, and if you haven’t informed your stylist about this and on the day they arrive, it is unlikely they will be able to fit extensions in the time that’s left.
Remember, your wedding day is all about you, and you want to look and feel your best. By following these tips, you can ensure that you will love your hair and makeup on your big day.
