When it comes to getting married, one of the biggest decisions you will have to make is choosing your dress/outfit. Where do you even start?
With so many Bridal Boutiques it can feel overwhelming. I caught up with Alison from Alyce Jayne Bridal to ask a few questions.
How and when did you start Alyce Jayne Bridal?
I had been taking on prom and bridal commissions since I’d graduated, alongside teaching full time in a college. I decided to go for it properly in the middle of 2019, slowly creating samples, doing a wee shoot and going to the big wedding show in the February of 2020. We all know what happened in March of that year! Despite that, I decided to keep going and I won a free ad in Rock n Roll Bride magazine which gave me a wee boost! Things have been going well and have just moved to a bigger studio this month.
How would you describe an Alyce Jayne Bride?
She’s definitely an individual looking for something a little different from what’s on offer at the traditional boutiques. A beautiful contradiction of what a woman ‘should be’. A little bit of a rebel, quirky, fashion forward, her own muse. Loves a bit of romantic style, loves vintage, a little bit edgy with a hint of rock n roll. A girly girl and a tomboy all in one.
How far in advance should Brides be getting in touch with you?
I would say a minimum of 8-12 months before your wedding. If you’re going bespoke you will have lots of fittings and if you’re going for a made to order in a standard dress size you need to allow time for alterations before the wedding. We can sometimes do rush orders though so please get in touch to chat about.
Wheres the furthest wedding venue your dresses have reached?
I’m currently working on a very cool alternative gothic wedding dress for a Colorado bride who is actually coming to Scotland for her wedding and has been working with mainly Scottish suppliers. Can’t wait to share this one!
What are the upcoming Bridal outfit trends for 2023?
More and more brides are breaking with tradition and doing whatever the hell they want! I’m there for that! I’m seeing more traditional silhouettes done in an alternative way with lots of colour. Many brides are now looking for a second look for evening to party in. Dresses or separates that offer quick changes can help achieve this without the cost of a whole second dress.
Where do you see Alyce Jayne Bridal in 5 years?
Alyce Jayne has just moved into a cracking new studio in the West End of Glasgow within a warehouse that has space for the manufacturing as well as space for photoshoots and for brides to have a proper try on of Alyce Jayne samples. In 5 years I hope that this is thriving with us offering lots of different options for brides including accessories and bridesmaids dresses too!
Who is your biggest inspiration?
I absolutely love the couture collections by Dior and Dolce and Gabbana Alta Moda as well as Alexander McQueen. Their collections are very dramatic with historical influences and I love the rock n roll merged with soft romantic elements at McQueen, right up my street!
